THE SUN IS SHINING. I just came in from a vigorous and hard fought blackberry battle. (I try to pull them up by the roots, they try to peel the flesh from my bones. We're pretty evenly matched, although I think they have a slight runner root advantage on my 'I will beat you with a shovel!' technique.)
As it turns out, there's a lot more garden once it's not covered in blackberry. This is good news because I just bought one of these yesterday:
It's not going directly where the blackberries are, but like everything else lately in order to do one little thing I have to do 15 other things first.

So pretty! What is it? I'm a fan of blackberries but I guess they're not so nice when they eat your whole yard and house and attempt to flay you. Vengeance: make their berries into jam. Mmmm.
ReplyDeleteIt's a corydalis! (I had to go pull the thing out of the pot to get the name.) Apparently it will smell good too, which I didn't know when I bought it. I also got some upright fuchsias and a fern! (I'm planting a shady spot.)
ReplyDeleteI love blackberries when they have room to ramble and bramble and I love blackberry jam, but I hate these mean city blackberries! They hardly ever fruit, like to grow in hard to reach places and have a taste for human flesh.
mean city blackberries. that has to be the name of something, somewhere, sometime. book, movie or band?
ReplyDeleteYou're right - it sounds like a gang! they all have bramble tattoos and a sweet tooth.
ReplyDeleteif we are ever forced to form a gang, maybe because people that like to bag tea start to get even crazier, i say that mean city blackberries should be our gang name!
