new way to commute

Ooooh! I was going through some stuff I'd bookmarked and found this video, which appeared on Stereogum April 2nd. It makes me ridiculously happy! (I can't help but think my shins would hurt a lot if I tried to get around in this manner. Although defeatist thinking is what will stop me from inventing the perfect bouncing shoe!!! I must snap out of it...)

Wednesday over at Fluxtumblr, I saw this video of She & Him with Yo La Tengo on Conan. FUN! I especially like how Zooey starts off with Tentative Nervous Tambourine, but by the end she is in full on Yay, This Is Going Well Tambourine mode.

In short: wheeee! (it's Friday and the sun is supposed to shine this weekend, I'm excited. I can't help it.)

  1. Ooh, we should trade places like every other week all winter! So I can get my clouds and rain and you can soak up all this sun!

    Those videos were terrific, yay!

  2. That sounds like a plan! I don't think I could give up all the clouds and rain, but I could do with a little more sunshine, that's for sure.

  3. Oops missed the 2nd one--no longer available. (The story of my life.) I liked the jumping man in the ice cream suit--perfect form-- but I, too, worried about his knees. Kept hoping he did not hop the whole time they were playing--that it was spliced. I am such an old poop!

  4. So weird! Dag and I were watching a show on cable in Seattle about all those great dancing guys/gals - Gene Kelly & Fred Astaire etc - and there was one number but I can't remember who the dancer was and it was this exact video. He hopped through the streets on both feet as normal life was going on all around him.
Ooh - Dag just found it on IMDB - it was Bobby Van in a number from Small Town Girl (1953).

  5. Patty, you should try it again! I know sometimes I can only watch one YouTube video on a page without refreshing.

Leslita, ha ha ha! That's so cool! I will have to check it out. As far as this video goes, I love that Ms. Goldfrapp appears as all those different people. (waiting for the bus, selling flowers, etc.)

  6. Update: Dag and I tried to hop home on both feet from Yur's last night and couldn't actually do it even once! It was shockingly difficult! I was previously amazed at how they could keep it up for so long and still look so graceful but I'm telling you, I am physically unable to propel myself forward in this way AT ALL! Have you tried this? It will give you renewed respect for Bobby Van and the guy in the Goldfrapp vid. O.M.G.

  7. I LOVE that you guys road tested this experiment! I have not tried it yet, but now of course I'll have to. I still think they must have magic shoes or something...
